Objectives

1. To make the graduates of SMU mentally resourceful, intellectually creative, entrepreneurially self-reliant and positively motivated for development and leadership roles and instill in them the virtues of self-confidence, self-respect, civic responsibility, for the overall benefit of individuals, the nation and the world.
2. To produce graduates who have acquired functional education, saleable skills to fill manpower demands of industry and the labor market and sufficient life skills to be self-reliant, and who are critical and practical in their thinking, have an appetite for solving problems with a solid understanding of ethics and law, excellent communicators and can apply their knowledge and skills across multiple areas of academia and industry.
3. To provide an academic environment that will catalyse creative but rigorous thinking, generate innovative and sustainable value creation for the development of indigenous human and material resources for the development of the nation and the continent.
4. To contribute to improving the standard and quality of University education and by extension, the quality of life in the Society by emphasizing a skill-based curriculum and the concept of green knowledge.
5. To build relationships with local and international academic institutions and interest and actively seek opportunities to expand the horizon of the University.
6. To Pursue engagement with the community as a core value by forging active relationships and conducting meaningful applied research.

Strategies for Achieving the Objectives:

1. Ambient environment for teaching, learning and recreation
2. Creative feeder programmes aimed at attracting students to engage with the University even before they proceed for degree programmes
3. Creative Incentivization programmes that will attract academic and technical staff from all over the world to teach and research at SMU
4. Scholarship schemes to attract and retain students and a creative school fee scheme to attract more students by making the first year of study free for all students.
5. Observe the highest standards of ethics and academic integrity
6. Mandatory membership of skills acquisition club for all students, in addition to a social clubs like drama, music, and sports.
7. Offer professional training and certification of students and staff in programmes such as; Cyber Security and Intelligence (CSI), Solar Engineering (SE), Oil and Gas Process Engineering (OGPE), Civil and Design Engineering (CDE), Building Information Modelling (BIM), Automotive Engineering (AE), Green Engineering (GE) Forensics, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Strategic Management and Technology Integration (SMTI), Software Application Development (SAD)
8. Drive towards a maximum 25% paper University. Automation of all processes with mandatory laptop for all staff and students
9. Collaborate with National and International Universities in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and research
