Maduka University Medical Team Visits Ekwegbe for Community Outreach
As part of its community engagement initiative, the Maduka University Medical Centre and College of Medicine recently visited Ekwegbe in preparation for an upcoming health awareness outreach. The visit aimed to strengthen ties with the host community and secure local support for
the initiative.
The team, led by Dr. Ifeanyi Godwin Chukwu, included Dr. Chukwunyere Ifeanyi, Nurse Anagbo Ogheneochuko, Nurse Ezema Ernest, Pharmacist Okon Saviour, Scientist Ugbekile Hillary, Miss Nora
Michaels (Medical Records), and Media and Publicity Team members Mr. Amubode Ayoola and Mr. Sagbo Gideon was received by Rev. Fr. Victor Chima, Venerable Ifeanyi Anthony, Mr. Ugwu Bartholomew Ogonna (Onowu of Ekwegbe), Mr. Christopher Onochie, and Mr. Leonard Ezema (Youth Leader).
In his remarks, Dr. Ifeanyi Godwin Chukwu stated that the visit was intended to raise awareness about the university’s medical services and ensure community members have access to its facilities.
He explained that the upcoming Health Awareness Outreach was part of Maduka University’s commitment to giving back to its host community.
According to him, “this initiative will strengthen our relationship with the people of Ekwegbe while promoting awareness of the world-class medical services available at Maduka University Medical Centre.”
He encouraged the community to participate in the outreach, initially scheduled for March 28 and 29, 2025. The Community leaders expressed appreciation for the initiative and pledged their support in mobilising participation. However, they noted that the proposed dates coincided with a burial ceremony in the community.
“While we welcome and appreciate this initiative,” Rev. Fr. Victor Chima stated, “the scheduled dates conflict with a burial ceremony in Ekwegbe. To ensure full participation, we suggest rescheduling. In the same vein, Eke and Afor market days should be avoided when setting new dates.”
In response, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwu assured that the medical team would review the schedule and communicate a revised date soon.
